Dr Ioannis Daniilidis, of the ELKEME Surface Science & Coatings department participated in the 236th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society at Atlanta, GA from October 13th through to October 17th 2019.  During the meeting, the keynote lecture “Beta Alumina – Prelude to a Revolution in Solid-State Electrochemistry” was given by Prof. S. Whittingham, winner of the Chemistry Nobel Prize for 2019 for the development of lithium-ion batteries.

Core subject of the meeting was the technological advancements in the field of developments and future trends of the battery systems and their applications, as well as on issues of metallic corrosion and degradation of materials, especially Aluminum, Copper and Steel alloys. Other areas that were discussed were Electrodeposition, Industrial Electrochemistry and Electrochemical Engineering, Nanocarbons, Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry, Sensors, High temperature energy, materials &processes, and the Electrochemical energy summit – Electrochemistry in Space.
