The paper with the title “Fracture analysis and embrittlement phenomena of machined brass components” authored by Dr. George Pantazopoulos and Dr. Athanasios Vazdirvanidis, was presented by Dr. George Pantazopoulos in the International Conference on Structural Integrity (ICSI 2017) in Funchal, Madeira, September 4-7, 2017.

In the present study, the failure analysis investigation of machined brass fittings and threaded components, was accomplished using mainly light optical microscopy and scanning electron fractography.  The investigation findings indicated the occurrence of intergranular fracture mode which was likely induced by metal-induced embrittlement, activated as a result of overheating during component fabrication.
