The paper with the title “Fatigue Failure of Roll Steel Pins from a Chain Assembly – Fracture Analysis and Numerical Modeling” authored by Ms. S. Papadopoulou, Mr. I. Pressas, Dr. A. Vazdirvanidis and Dr. G. Pantazopoulos from ELKEME S.A. was presented in the poster session of the 2nd International Conference on Structural Integrity and Durability (ICSID 2018), 2-5 October 2018, Dubrovnik Croatia. The paper presents the investigation results of the fatigue failure of steel pins from a chain assembly, using fractographic and metallographic analysis, through optical and scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, numerical modeling using Finite Element Analysis, was performed highlighting the influence of pin geometry on the fatigue susceptibility of steel pins. The modification of pin design and the improvement of the steel hardness condition were suggested as the most effective fatigue failure preventive actions. Dr. George Pantazopoulos was also served as chairman of the session “Fatigue and fracture of weldments, welded components, joints and adhesives 2” which was held on 4th October 2018.
