The paper with the title “Wear and Degradation Modes in Selected Vehicle Tribosystems” was presented by Dr. George Pantazopoulos in the BALKANTRIB’14 Conference. The paper was co-authored by Assistant Professor Antonios Tsolakis, Associate Professor Pandora Psyllaki from Laboratory of Tribology, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technological Education Institute of Piraeus (TEI), and Mr. Athanasios Vazdirvanidis from ELKEME S.A. The paper focused on the investigation of wear and damage mechanisms occurred in two specific vehicle tribosystems, a cast iron pressure plate operated in an automobile clutch system and a stainless steel brake disk/pad tribosystem in a high performance motorcycle. Apart from metallurgical evaluation carried out for both tribosystems, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed in the second tribosystem (stainless steel brake disk/brake pad) to study the thermomechanical stress distribution of the brake system and validate the proposed failure hypothesis. Dr. Pantazopoulos has been appointed as co-chairman of the relevant Session “Nano and Microtribology  (N&MT) / Tribology in Transportation Engineering and Power Generation Systems (TTE/PGS).
