The paper with the title “Investigation of the effect of homogenization practice of 6063 alloy billets on beta to alpha transformation and of the effect of cooling rate on precipitation kinetics” authored by Marianna Katsivarda, Athanasios Vazdirvanidis, George Pantazopoulos, Nikos Kolioubas, Sofia Papadopoulou, Andreas Rikos, Eugenia Spiropoulou and Spyros Papaefthymiou was presented in the poster session by Ms. S. Papadopoulou, of the ELKEME Metallography & Electron Optics department, in International Conference on Processing & Manufacturing of Advanced Materials (THERMEC’2018), held in Paris, France from the 8th to the 13th of July.
The paper was focused on the determination of the optimum homogenization conditions, based on the effects on microstructure and hardness of 6063 alloy billets, as the main decision criteria. In order to investigate those conditions, the size and morphology of the AlFeMnSi intermetallic particles and the precipitation behavior of Mg2Si constituents was examined in detail via optical (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
